Rasmus Hojlund had a forgettable impact in Manchester United defeat, the numbers are shocking

Manchester United are entitled to expect more from substitute Rasmus Hojlund, who failed to impact the game against Tottenham.

If you are compiling a list of all the many things wrong with Manchester United’s performance against Tottenham, then Rasmus Hojlund’s lack of impact is admittedly pretty far down the list.

Yet that does not mean the Dane’s woeful contribution as a substitute should be ignored either.

For the third game in succession Hojlund was brought on with United chasing a goal – and the team failed to score during the time he has spent on the pitch in all three.

Rasmus Hojlund vs Tottenham

Rasmus Hojlund came on in the 73rd minute for Manchester United against Tottenham, with the score at 2-0.

United had just enjoyed the team’s best spell of the game, and hoped Hojlund may be able to impact the game positively.

That was not the case with Spurs scoring a third goal, four minutes later, and Hojlund was anonymous during his 17 minutes plus stoppage time.

Hojlund’s numbers during his cameo were especially worrying…

Just one touch for the Dane is an embarrassing return. His one touch was a completed pass – and that was all he did.

You could point to some of this being on United being down to 10 men – but just one touch in 20 odd minutes of play is simply not good enough.

And it follows a worrying trend since Hojlund’s return from injury.

Hojlund showings vs Twente and Crystal Palace

Rasmus Hojlund played 11 minutes plus stoppage time against FC Twente, and during this cameo he managed only five touches.

He played 14 minutes and injury time away at Palace – and again managed only five touches.

In neither game did he manage to attempt a shot at goal – the game against Tottenham followed the same theme.

So in 42 minutes of football plus the added time, Hojlund has managed 11 touches and no shots at goal.

Coming off the bench is clearly not as easy as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer used to make it look, and one conclusion is that Hojlund is still not fully fit.

He needs get up to speed quickly, Manchester United need goals, netting only once in the last three games in all competitions.
