Rasmus Hojlund makes Manchester City point after Manchester United defeat

Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund scored two goals and saw his side slip to defeat… again.

Rasmus Hojlund must feel like he can’t win right now. In the Premier League he is yet to score a goal, and no doubt, he is feeling some pressure from that.

In the Champions League, he has scored five goals, yet in the three games he has netted, Manchester United have lost them all.

Last night his brace against former side Copenhagen counted for nothing as the Red Devils fell to a 4-3 defeat in Denmark.

Rasmus Hojlund compliments Copenhagen

Rasmus Hojlund spoke to TNT Sport after the game and criticised the decision to give Marcus Rashford a red card. He disagreed with the referee.

He spoke in more detail to foreign broadcaster Via Play, reported by Bold.dk, where he referred to Manchester City struggling away at Copenhagen last season in reference to how difficult it is to get a win at his former club.

Hojlund said: “The red card changed the game. Obviously, when you’re outnumbered it’s going to be difficult, but I actually think we did really well in the first 20 minutes and found our rhythm when we came back after the break.

“It is difficult with one man outnumbered, and FCK also does it well. They played really well and did their thing.”

Asked if Manchester United can qualify, Hojlund responded: “I think it’s too hard to say. Manchester City also had problems with a man down here last year, and they won the Champions League, so I think it’s quite hard to say.”

City drew the game 0-0, managing at least to show some defensive resilience which was sorely lacking from Manchester United last night.

One win in four

Forget winning the Champions League at this point, just getting a win has proved difficult enough for Manchester United.

United surrendered a 2-0 lead and a 3-2 lead to slip to a 4-3 defeat last night. United have only one win from four matches.

Now, we need to beat Galatasaray away and Bayern Munich at home to qualify, and even then, that would not be enough if Copenhagen win both of their matches.

Hojlund’s point about City stands, in reference to how difficult it is to play against Copenhagen, and United almost pulled it off. But ‘almost’ is no use to United right now.

And while City could afford to drop points in Denmark last season, Manchester United could not afford to do so last night, and any dreams of winning the competition will likely remain just that, dreams.
