Rasmus Hojlund ‘gutted’ with one thing from Tottenham match and sends important message to Man Utd fans

Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund has opened up on his frustration after the Red Devils’ 2-2 draw against Tottenham at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Hojlund was heavily criticised by Sky Sports pundit Roy Keane ahead of the Spurs match over his lack of goalscoring output in the Premier League this season.

The 20-year-old United striker had endured a long-running goalscoring drought in the Premier League and scored for the first time in the league in December.

Hojlund stepped up for the Red Devils on Sunday and fired United into an early lead against Spurs after smashing an unstoppable strike past Guglielmo Vicario.

The Denmark international also picked up his first Premier League assist after setting up United forward Marcus Rashford before the break at Old Trafford.

Despite Hojlund’s best efforts on the day, United had to settle for a Premier League point from the match after Richarlison and Rodrigo Bentancur both scored for Spurs.

Hojlund’s message after Tottenham draw

Hojlund has scored twice in 16 Premier League appearances, with the striker scoring for the first time in the league in United’s 3-2 comeback win against Aston Villa.

The former Atalanta star had faced mounting pressure over his goalscoring drought in the league after his £72m move from the Italian side last summer.

Hojlund, who scored five times in six Champions League appearances, appears to be settling in well at United and finding his footing in the final third in recent weeks.

However, the United striker couldn’t hold back his frustration at the Red Devils not securing a win against Spurs and showed it in his message on social media.

“Gutted we didn’t get the win today,” he wrote on Instagram, before adding: “Always a pleasure with the support from you guys! Now time to recharge.”

Rashford appeared to agree with every word of Hojlund’s social media post after eagle-eyed United fans spotted that the Red Devils forward liked his message.

Erik ten Hag on Hojlund’s performance

United manager Erik ten Hag welcomed the connection between Rashford and Hojlund in the Spurs match and the impact the pair had against Tottenham.

Speaking after the match, he said (via Manchester United’s official website): “I hope they keep going with this progress.

“You see they are coming up with routines – that is what you need.

“You need it everywhere but especially in the front line, where there are tight areas and quick decisions have to be made.

“In a split second, you need the right decisions, so you need that intuition.”

Hojlund’s message of “recharge” will be important going forward, with United needing him in their bid to finish in the Premier League top four this season.

The striker’s recharge sentiments will also apply to the likes of Rashford and United’s other attacking options, with the Red Devils underperforming in the final third this season.
