Rashford praises Wan-Bissaka as Ten Hag says he ‘has a future’ at the club

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has praised teammate Aaron Wan-Bissaka for his performance against Burnley.

Wan-Bissaka made his first start of the season in the win, and provided an assist for the team’s opening goal.

The right-back’s future has been unclear, with Erik ten Hag preferring other options at the position so far this season.

Speculation in recent weeks has linked Wan-Bissaka with a move away, with 90Min claiming Leeds, Wolves and Crystal Palace are all interested.

Ten Hag says Wan-Bissaka has a future

Erik ten Hag spoke after the game to say he was please with the defender’s contribution, speaking to the club website.

Ten Hag said: “He has a future. He has had some good years at Man United but, from the start of this season he has had a lot of illnesses and injuries. So, from the restart on, he is fit, so he could train with the team and you see him progressing.

“His fitness levels are getting better. His performance levels are getting better and I am really happy today with his performance. And he gave an assist and, especially, the way he gave the assist [I was happy with].

“About his movement, the timing and a great pass from Bruno. But the assist was great, so I am happy with his performance. He did good.”

Rashford praises Wan-Bissaka

Wan-Bissaka was also praised by forward Marcus Rashford, who said he can benefit from added confidence.

Rashford is a player who has benefitted from having a manager who believes in him, and potentially, Wan-Bissaka can do the same.

“He’s a massively important player. We all know about his defensive qualities and, for me, he just needs confidence to be pushed to go forward because, when he goes forward, he can create goalscoring opportunities for us.

“Today, he had no right to get that ball but he got there anyway and it was a good ball across. It looks like a simple goal in the end but it isn’t. it was a great goal and ‘Azza’ played a massive part

If Wan-Bissaka can continue to prove his worth, then he could save United millions in the January transfer window.

Whether he is a long-term solution as back-up right-back is unclear. But he could certainly make a contribution between now and the end of the season, if allowed to. Last night was a step in the right direction.
