Raphael Varane has sung Casemiro‘s praises and labelled his Manchester United teammate’s performance against Manchester City as “incredible”.

Erik ten Hag’s midfield enforcer produced some crucial interventions to ensure the Red Devils beat Pep Guardiola’s Citizens 2-1 at Old Trafford, in what was a thrilling derby clash.

United’s number 18 blocked an Erling Haaland shot in the first half and also perfectly timed a tackle on the Norwegian superstar with there being little margin for error.

The five-time Champions League winner was influential in Ten Hag’s side avenging the 6-3 defeat to City at the Etihad back in October, a game in which the 30-year-old came off the bench.

Casemiro was “incredible” against Manchester City, says Raphael Varane

Varane and Casemiro have played alongside one and other 215 times during their time together with Real Madrid and United.

The pair are serial winners and with the duo hungry to get United back to the top of the footballing mountain – the Manchester United dressing room is only going to benefit when learning from the influential duo.

The twenty-time league champions have only lost one Premier League game when Casemiro has been included in Ten Hag’s starting line-up.

From the 11 top-flight matches the Brazilian has started, United have picked up 26 points from a possible 33.

Casemiro’s influence is growing with every passing game and if United can keep Varane fit, Ten Hag’s team can be built around two of the most decorated players to have played the game.

Varane was full of praise for the 69-time Brazil international following United’s derby day win.

Speaking via The National, United’s number 19 said: “There are no words. Ok, he covers so much ground. He runs so much.

“He’s aggressive when he wants the ball, yet calm when he has the ball. He was incredible one more time.”
