Raphael Varane and Scott McTominay injury updates: Manchester United boost

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has provided an injury update on Raphael Varane and Scott McTominay.

Varane has been out since suffering an injury at home to Sevilla and it was worried he could miss the entire season.

Ten Hag then hinted he could return for the FA Cup final. Now it looks like he could be back even sooner than that.

He told club media: “The prognosis, I think Rapha is closer than Scott McTominay in this moment.”

This is interesting considering McTominay had posted an update to his Instagram stories showing he is back on the training pitch. He has been out since the win over Everton last month.

Ten Hag did clarify that neither player will be considered for the two away games this week. He said: “Still they are, for the coming two games [Brighton and West Ham], they are not available.”

Potential involvement on Saturday May 13 at home to Wolves is a date the pair could potentially target.

Alejandro Garnacho update

Alejandro Garnacho returned to training at the weekend, but Erik ten Hag is uncertain whether he will be involved this week.

He said the wonderkid still has to prove his fitness and match sharpness, and will take a judgement tomorrow.

“I think we have one training [session], but I think it’s too soon to be available.

“I think he is short [of full fitness]. I think he needs some training and then, in short notice, he will be available.”

It sounds like Garnacho may miss the game against Brighton on Thursday but could potentially make his return for Sunday’s game against West Ham.
