Erik ten Hag is hopeful that Raphael Varane will be available for the FA Cup final against Manchester City.
Varane was injured during United’s first-leg quarter-final tie against Sevilla and was reported that he would be out for a ‘few weeks’.
With the FA Cup final occurring on Saturday the 3rd of June 2023, it appears Erik ten Hag is confident the 29-year-old can make a full recovery in order to face the noisy neighbours.
Varane to return from injury to face Manchester City in the FA Cup Final
Following the Red Devils tense penalty shootout win in the FA Cup semi-final, ten Hag spoke to Talksport and was questioned on whether Varane could feature in the final (Via ManUtd).
“I think so,” the Dutchman stated. “Yeah. Varane, for the cup final, he can return.”
Fantastic news for the club and fans alike, with the stability in defence looking ever more assured with Varane at the back.
His partner in crime Lisandro Martinez will definitely not feature. His injury sustained in the same game against Sevilla is a lot more serious than the Frenchman’s, which rules him out until the beginning of next season.
Victor Lindelof is definitely in with a shout to partner Varane after his brilliant display in the semi. However, as is Luke Shaw. The manager certainly has options.
Ten Hag had this to say about the centre-back duo.
“Victor Lindelof, it’s so great for him. He’s played his games but not as much as he probably expected. Now is his chance and he’s taken his chance because he was there.
“Luke showed composure in defending and organising, building up and he played a decent game. This is what we expected.”
