Manchester United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir made his long awaited debut for the first team.
When Altay Bayindir dreamed of making his Manchester United debut, he probably would not have envisioned it taking place at Newport County’s Rodney Parade.
But given the long wait, Bayindir certainly could not afford to be fussy, with manager Erik ten Hag rigidly sticking by Andre Onana throughout the season so far.
Given Onana’s mixed form, many have simply wondered ‘why not?’ when it comes to giving Bayindir a chance, and it finally came his way.

Altay Bayindir verdict
Manchester United won the game 4-2, with Newport briefly stunning the Red Devils to draw back level at 2-2.
The first goal he conceded came via a deflected long range shot, while the second was a tap-in after United’s defence was undone at the start of the second half.
His performance was praised by BBC co-commentator Danny Murphy, who pointed out how he had given a good account of himself.
He said: “The keeper has looked good today, neither of the goals were his fault. Good stature and presence.”
It was a view backed on MUTV, with pundit Quinton Fortune commenting: “He did very good today. When your opportunity comes you have got to take it.”
Former defender Wes Brown felt it was a positive step for Bayindir, coming in to make his debut.
He said: “He did OK, for the two goals he did everything he can do. Everything else he did absolutely fine.
“He will be hoping there’s more games for him, but he didn’t do anything to harm than opportunity.”
Erik ten Hag verdict
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag said he was pleased with Bayindir’s performance in the win.
He told his press conference: “I think it was a composed debut. Some good saves, so very composed. I think, overall, he can be happy. I was pleased with his performance.”
First Turkish player to play for Manchester United
Altay Bayindir made history in the win, becoming the first ever Turkish player to represent Manchester United.
He has had to wait for his debut, since making his transfer from Fenerbahce last September.
Andre Onana is set to return from the African Cup of Nations after Cameroon’s elimination, giving Ten Hag a decision to make against Wolves this coming week.
