Manchester United kick off the 2023/24 Premier League season on Monday night at Old Trafford against Wolves.

The encounter was one Manchester United won 2-0 last season, although it has become a little more unpredictable by Wolves switching managers, from Julen Lopetegui to Gary O’Neil.

Erik ten Hag will hope to avoid the ‘new manager bounce‘, something he did not benefit from last season in his own first match in charge,

United are heavily favoured to win this one, with Paul Merson predicting a four-goal victory for the Red Devils.

Manchester United predicted line-up v Wolves

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has a fairly strong idea of his preferred line-up, although new signing Rasmus Hojlund won’t feature due to injury.

Andre Onana will start in goal, just don’t call him United’s new number one. He will wear the number 24 shirt.

There is an open question over who will deputies for him on the bench after Tom Heaton’s injury.

Three of the four defensive spots are fairly straightforward, with Luke Shaw at left-back, and Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane in central defence.

It is 50/50 at right-back, where Diogo Dalot began the warm-up v Lens, and made an error for their goal. We are expecting Aaron Wan-Bissaka to come back in as a starter against Wolves.

United’s new look midfield trio should all start a league game together for the first time, with Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes joined by Mason Mount.

The front three will also mirror last week’s starters against Lens. Marcus Rashford will play through the middle, with Hojlund out.

This creates room for Alejandro Garnacho on United’s left wing, with Antony starting on the right.

It should be a team more than capable of beating Wolves comfortably, with Anthony Martial, Jadon Sancho, Facundo Pellistri and Christian Eriksen all providing attacking options from the bench if needed.
