Manchester United host Wolves in the season opener at Old Trafford and the Red Devils will be strong favourites.

In the penultimate home game of last season, Manchester United beat Wolves 2-0. Now, with the 2023/24 season kicking off against the same opponents, Erik ten Hag’s side are looking for another three points.

There is one major change in the dugout, with Wolves looking for a ‘new manager bounce’ from Gary O’Neil after Julen Lopetegui quit earlier this week.

On the pitch, United appear to have strengthened, while Wolves have lost key players including Ruben Neves.

Manchester United tipped to win easily

Outspoken pundit Paul Merson is tipping Manchester United to win heavily, while also managing to contradict himself.

In his prediction column for SportsKeeda, Merson says: “They might have problems with scoring goals.”

He goes on to tip Manchester United to beat Wolves 4-0 at Old Trafford this coming Monday, which would be an absolute treat for supporters.

Merson said: “Wolves are in disarray at the moment – they’ve sacked their manager three days before a trip to Old Trafford. Manchester United won’t believe their luck, and I’m backing them to win this game.”

United attackers praised

Merson explained he is actually quite encouraged by United’s attacking options, if they can continue to show improvement.

He said: “Jadon Sancho has looked sharp in pre-season, and Rashford and Garnacho have been impressive as well.

“Antony is getting better with every passing week. If Hojlund is as good as his price tag suggests, Man United will have a great season.”

Rasmus Hojlund will miss the opening game, with Marcus Rashford expected to start the game up front.
