Plzen’s Matej Vydra shares the admission Man Utd star Bruno Fernandes told him at full-time

Manchester United’s players were made to work hard for the victory away at Plzen.

Plzen were beaten 2-1 at home to Manchester United, and with some more ruthless finishing, the Red Devils’ margin of victory could have been even higher.

Rasmus Hojlund scored a brace, now up to seven for the season, with five coming under new boss Ruben Amorim.

One of the real stars of the show was Bruno Fernandes, who provided the match-winning assist for Rasmus Hojlund, one of seven chances he created.

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes applauded the Manchester United supporters at full-time following the victory.

He was also seen in conversation with Plzen goalscorer Matej Vydra, a player he previously took on with United when the striker was at Burnley.

Vydra spoke to Czech outlet iSport following United’s 2-1 victory, and explained his post-match chat.

He commented: “I was looking forward to seeing a few players from United, we know each other, we chatted for a while after the match. It was wonderful to play against such a club again.

“With Bruno Fernandes, Mason Mount and the goalkeeper Tom Heaton. We talked about families, in general. And also about the fact that they took a point from us.”

He then revealed Fernandes’ compliment: “Bruno said that he doesn’t like playing against Czech teams, or even our national team, because they say we run like crazy.”

Plzen certainly made United work, and it was a test Ruben Amorim’s men came through, which will delight the head coach and his staff.

The former Watford and Derby striker was proud of Plzen’s performance, and how they took the game to United.

He explained: “We lost, but in some passages we were able to match Manchester. We put Czech heart into the game, we wanted to win at all costs.

“In general, the substitutes decided the game. The opponent has a new coach, the players are on the same line, everyone wants to show themselves. It was clear that they wanted to turn the game around. The guys from the bench helped a lot, we were probably running out of strength.”

Vydra also talked about his gift of a goal from United, and brief fear he would not be able to capitalise.

“Onana wasn’t in the goal and I just said to myself: don’t screw it up.”
