Plzen midfielder makes ‘unpleasant’ comment ahead of Man Utd clash, takes inspiration from Wayne Rooney

The Europa League journey continues for Manchester United as they travel to the Czech Republic to face Vikoria Plzen.

Plzen are currently the second-ranked team in the country and they will be looking to cause an upset on Thursday when they host Manchester United.

Like United, Plzen are unbeaten in this year’s Europa League campaign, after playing five matches each.

The Manchester United first team suffered defeat to a series of second-rate teams in Europe over the past five years, including games against the likes of Young Boys, Copenhagen and Astana.

On top of that, United were winless in their first three European games after drawing against FC Twente, FC Porto and Fenerbahce.

The Reds first European win of the season came against PAOK. United defeated Bodo/Glimt in Amorim’s second game in charge after the Portuguese coach arrived from Sporting CP. Another win against Plzen would see Amorim create United history as the only manager to beat Czech opposition away from home.

Meanwhile, the Czech press believes Plzen stand a chance and their players are excited about welcoming United to the Doosan Arena.

Pavel Sulc warns Manchester United about unpleasantries

Czech Republic international Pavel Sulc is one of the Plzen players expected to start against United on Thursday.

The midfield star has warned United to expect an unpleasant evening in Plzen, where they are planning to put a lot of pressure on the Reds.

“Yes, they are in the bottom half of the table, but it’s still the Premier League,” Sulc said, as quoted by BBC Sport.

“We will stick to our plan. We will play as we do in the Europa League. We will try to be unpleasant, we will run a lot, we will put a lot of pressure on the opponent.

“We will probably need a little bit of luck, but we are hoping that the luck will be on our side.”

After scoring four goals in his past four appearances for Plzen, Sulc revealed he took inspiration from United’s record goalscorer Wayne Rooney.

Rooney ranks first in United’s top scorer charts with 253 goals and is closely followed by icons such as Sir Bobby Charlton and Denis Law.

Sulc added: “I used to watch them a lot when I was younger. I used to really admire Wayne Rooney.

“I admire Wayne’s style, and he always tries to put his all in the match. I kind of try to channel his energy too, so that’s my inspiration.

“As for other players, of course I respect them. It’s impossible not to respect them. Right now, I focus on my people, on myself.”
