Piotr Sadowski says only one Man Utd wonderkid could play for the first-team right now

Manchester United’s academy is a massive part of the club, and therefore, it is also key for Ruben Amorim to embrace.

For the past 88 years, Manchester United have had an academy player in every single match-day squad, which is a proud record at Carrington.

Ruben Amorim has promised to maintain this record, acknowledging that it is bulletproof, and last weekend against Tottenham, United had Jack Fletcher on the bench to keep it alive.

However, the usage of academy players in total has been poor under Amorim, and he needs to do better with Kobbie Mainoo increasingly frustrated by a lack of minutes.

However, now former United scout Piotr Sadowski has pondered if the academy players are even good enough.

Harry Amass the only Manchester United wonderkid who is ready for Ruben Amorim

Amorim has taken a liking to multiple youngsters within the academy; however, he has yet to award any debuts this season.

Last season, Amorim handed three United academy stars a debut, but he was supposed to be a manager willing to promote the academy.

Now, speaking with The Sun, Sadowski has explained that only Harry Amass is good enough to be playing first-team football anyway.

“Now, United are wary of bringing in youngsters. Amorim was supposed to be the one to do this, but the results haven’t been right, so he prefers to buy ready-made players.

“Whether he has anyone to choose from in the backroom is another matter. In my opinion, Harry Amass is the only player currently capable of making it into the United first-team squad after returning from his loan spell.”

Harry Amass is proving the value of a well-placed loan move

While Amass probably is the academy talent most ready to step into the first team right now, this was not the case six months ago.

The 18-year-old England U19 starlet was considered not physically ready for the step up, while new signing Diego Leon was surprisingly prioritised ahead of Amass.

However, undeterred by this, Amass chose to knuckle down and work harder, head out on loan to a club in hardship, and has excelled.

Amass has developed weekly at Sheffield Wednesday, proving that a loan is the best way for youngsters to develop that extra step needed to be first-team ready.

Now, we understand that United wonderkid Gabriele Biancheri is being eyed by Wednesday, and he is capable of kicking on just like Amass has to put himself in contention for the first team in 2026.
