Manchester United blew Barnsley away this week with spectacular performances across the attack, in particular from Alejandro Garnacho.
The near-disaster against Coventry at Wembley was illustration how Manchester United often make hard work of facing teams lower down the leagues.
In the Carabao Cup specifically, United needed penalties to beat League One Rochdale in 2019 after a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.
And with Erik ten Hag’s side yet to beat a team by more than three clear goals, it was refreshing to see Manchester United smash Barnsley by a score of 7-0, one of the club’s biggest ever wins.
Alejandro Garnacho was absolutely key, scoring two goals and assisting two, playing a lethal part in the victory.

Argentine press react to Garnacho super show
Alejandro Garnacho is creating considerable excitement in Argentina, where he provided his first ever international assist during the recent break.
Garnacho is the first ever Argentine to be nominated for the Kopa Award, and every step he takes at Manchester United is being closely monitored.

The Argentine media reported on Garnacho’s four-goal contribution performance, lauding the 20-year-old with superlatives.
AS Argentina ran their story, ‘United: Invincible with Garnacho’, noting: “The English team wins every time the Argentine player scores or assists. His numbers at the start of the season are admirable.”
“La Albiceleste is experiencing a generational change that he will have to lead without delay.
“The departure of Angel Di María and the imminent departure of Leo Messi will mean that some of the youngsters will be forced to take a step forward, with the aim of making the path to the new era happen in the simplest and most peaceful way.
“Garnacho is one of the main jewels of the country and the expectations placed on him are enormous. At the moment, he is aware of the phenomenal attributes that he possesses and he is proving this at the beginning of his promising career.”
Clarin report that Garnacho ‘is having an extraordinary start to the season’, adding that future call-ups to the Argentina team look assured.
Doble Amarilla lauded the forward as ‘instrumental’ to United win, while ESPN Argentina described it as a ‘magical night’ at Old Trafford.
Diario Popular add: “The footballer demonstrated great sporting performance in the best league in the world at just 20 years old. A sporting career that developed very quickly, and that will continue to grow on a large scale.”
Garnacho looking for season best figures
Alejandro Garnacho scored the most important goal of his career when he put Manchester United 1-0 up in the FA Cup Final this last June.
It was also significant one in the context of his season, pushing his tally up to double figures for the first time, ending the campaign with 10 goals.
Garnacho is on course to exceed this, and will probably do so by Christmas at this rate.
This season the youngster has scored four goals already, which is particularly impressive as he has only started two games.
Garnacho also has three assists, and if he carries on at this rate, it will be the Ronaldo-esque jump many have predicted he would be capable of making.
