Peter Schmeichel has told Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher that he did everything in his power to try and convince one player to sign for Manchester United.
Manchester United strengthened over the summer transfer window and Ineos’ spending spree saw the Premier League club bring in five new signings.
Ruben Amorim was able to build up his attacking options in the United first-team squad, with Matheus Cunha arriving in June and Bryan Mbeumo signing in July.
The 40-year-old United manager also received a new striking option, with the Red Devils hijacking Newcastle’s pursuit of former RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko.
United invested in the long term as well with the signing of Paraguayan wonderkid Diego Leon, while the Red Devils landed prospect Senne Lammens on deadline day.

Peter Schmeichel explains to Jamie Carragher what he told Gianluigi Donnarumma amid the Man Utd links in the summer
Manchester United were linked with different shot-stopping options in the summer, including Aston Villa star Emiliano Martinez and Italy ace Gianluigi Donnarumma.
However, United settled on Senne Lammens as their preferred transfer and signed the 23-year-old Belgian shot-stopper from Royal Antwerp for an initial £18.1m fee.
Speaking on CBS Sports Golazo on Wednesday evening, Jamie Carragher revealed Peter Schmeichel had tried to sway Gianluigi Donnarumma to sign for United.
“You seem a little bit ‘offended’ by the fact that PSG have let Donnarumma go,” he said during the Champions League coverage.
“Are you sure you shouldn’t be offended with what you’ve done yourself in the last 12 months?”
Carragher added: “You’ve basically tried to get him to Manchester United. You’ve been talking to him at every opportunity and you failed.”
Responding to Liverpool legend Carragher, Schmeichel opened up about his desire to see Donnarumma at United and what the ex-Paris Saint-Germain star told him.
“And that’s why I’m not an agent,” he said.
“I have been talking to him for, yeah, actually more than a year and I pulled him and I said, ‘I asked you to come to Man United. You’re in the wrong club here.’
“And all he said was, ‘I am happy.’”

Jamie Carragher playfully teases Peter Schmeichel over Man City signing Gianluigi Donnarumma from PSG ahead of Man Utd
Gianluigi Donnarumma made the decision to leave PSG in the summer and the 26-year-old Italian completed a sensational move to Manchester City on deadline day.
Manchester City landed United target Donnarumma for around £30m, with the ex-PSG star’s arrival coming in the same window as Ederson’s move to Fenerbahce.
Carragher did not pass up the opportunity to aim a cheeky dig at Schmeichel by bringing up the United legend’s past history of playing for the Red Devils’ rivals.
“But it is one of your former clubs, Peter,” Carragher said in response to Schmeichel.
Reacting to the Sky Sports pundit, Schmeichel added: “Yeah, it is, but still, it’s not in there [pointing at his heart].”
Schmeichel’s allegiance to United sparked an immediate reaction from Carragher, who hilariously suggested that the “City fans are coming” for the 61-year-old Dane.
