Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel has singled out one player, in particular, for criticism following the chastening defeat to Manchester City.
Manchester United slumped to a 3-0 defeat, their fifth defeat in 10 Premier League games, and are now firmly off the pace for Champions League football, never mind the title.
One player, in particular, drew the ire of the iconic goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel and it was Sofyan Amrabat who drew criticism from the Dane.
The Moroccan was substituted at half-time and replaced by Mason Mount, a decision which was made to inject more energy into their midfield but one that failed to work.

Schmeichel on Amrabat
Speaking to Premier League Productions after the game, the Dane understood why Erik Ten Hag decided to replace the on-loan Fiorentina midfielder.
“I mean, he makes a change at half time, there’s a reason for that because it wasn’t working in midfield. Amrabat was so far off the pace Man City basically could do whatever they wanted.
“And the chances, yes, we had chances but they all came from Manchester City mistakes, it wasn’t like we were creating anything.”
Pinning all of the blame on Amrabat when Christian Eriksen and Scott McTominay completed the midfield three is certainly harsh from the ex-United goalkeeper.
United’s midfield problems
For the best part of a decade, United have had an issue with their midfield.
Whether it’s players not being good enough, committed enough, or fit enough, the Red Devils have had huge problems in their engine room.
Casemiro, who looked to have solved their midfield crisis last season, has looked poor throughout this season and has been rightly dropped.
United are missing that bite in the tackle that would get fans onside and up for these big games, their midfield were so passive against City.
How the Red Devils improve this is the million-pound question and one that could be the reason behind Ten Hag’s unfortunate downfall.
