Peter Schmeichel admitted that he is a big fan of the “aura” surrounding one Manchester United-linked manager amid uncertainty around Erik ten Hag’s future.
Erik ten Hag is under immense pressure at Old Trafford after Manchester United have managed only two wins in their opening seven Premier League matches.
The Red Devils picked up a Premier League point from their 0-0 draw against Aston Villa on Sunday at Villa Park ahead of the October international break.
United are currently 14th in the Premier League table, with Ten Hag’s men managing only eight points from a possible 21 points on offer so far.
Ten Hag, who signed a new contract in the summer, has faced fierce criticism over United’s performances and run of results since the start of the 2024-25 campaign.
Speculation has continued to mount around the 54-year-old United manager’s long-term future, despite Ten Hag signing his contract extension in the summer.

Schmeichel on Man Utd-linked manager
Speaking on the Seaman Says podcast, Peter Schmeichel dropped his clear-cut verdict on Thomas Tuchel amid reports linking him with Manchester United.
Thomas Tuchel was linked with the Red Devils in the past and Erik ten Hag even confirmed in the summer that United had spoken with the German.
Ineos launched an end-of-season review after United’s disappointing 2023-24 campaign, despite Ten Hag leading the Red Devils to the FA Cup trophy.
United walked back on their interest in Tuchel in the summer before Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Ineos backed Ten Hag with a new contract extension.
“With the last two jobs Thomas Tuchel had, at Chelsea and at Bayern Munich, he was at those two clubs at the wrong time,” Schmeichel said.
“Chelsea was a mess when he was there with the new owners coming in. At Bayern, it was similar because they changed the whole leadership of the club.
“I like Thomas Tuchel, I really I like him. Being around the Champions League, talking to him and interviewing him, listening to him talk to his players in the technical area, he just looks like someone who would be a good manager for Manchester United.
“I don’t think he got his way at Chelsea and I know for sure he didn’t get his way at Bayern Munich. I just think he’s got such a great aura around him that he fits the bill for United.”
Schmeichel commits to Man Utd boss Ten Hag
Thomas Tuchel has been out of management since his departure from Bayern Munich, with the German club missing out on the league title last season.
Despite Schmeichel’s admiration for former Chelsea and Bayern Munich boss Tuchel, the United legend has committed his full support behind Ten Hag.
“But Erik ten Hag is still the manager and I will support him because I want the club to do well,” he continued.
“I don’t want United to be the club that changes the manager all the time.
“I hope they stick with Erik because we need consistency now. Let him have a fair go at this.
“He’s been hampered by a lot of things over the last two years, now he’s got his own players, let him show us what the plan is and what he can do with the football club. If that doesn’t work, then maybe then we talk about a change.”
