Pep Guardiola has confirmed the identity of his starting goalkeeper for Saturday’s FA Cup final against Manchester United.
In his pre-match press conference for the final, City’s boss confirmed he would stick with second choice keeper Stefan Ortega for the final.
The German keeper has played every game for the Citizens in the FA Cup this season, keeping five clean sheets.
Ortega joined City last season on a free from Arminia Bielefeld which has proved to be a good coup.
However, this news will definitely be a welcome bonus for Erik ten Hag, given the alternative is Ederson.
The absence of their number one could pose issues for City at the back. A potential loss in organisation and Ortega isn’t as adept in ball playing and sweeping as his Brazilian teammate.
It will also be a boost of confidence to Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes who will be eager to get on the scoresheet.
Antony missing for United
City won’t be the only side not having a regular starter available, as ten Hag confirmed Antony is unlikely to be available.
This will be disappointing for the Brazilian who earlier this week seemed primed to return. Antony picked up an injury against Chelsea last week in the 4-1 win.
In lieu of Antony, United will likely call upon Jadon Sancho to start on the right. This given his impressive performances there in recent weeks leading to two goal contributions in two games.
Sancho will been keen to make a good showing in the final staking his claim to start next season ahead of Antony.
This could also open the door for Alejandro Garnacho to start on the left, with Marcus Rashford up front.
