Michael Carrick has now dropped a clear-cut verdict on the criticism that former Manchester United and England teammate Paul Scholes aimed at his side last week.
The 44-year-old Manchester United legend oversaw the first Premier League defeat of his eight-match reign as interim head coach at Old Trafford since January.
United lost 2-1 to 10-man Newcastle at St James’ Park last Wednesday evening and Paul Scholes immediately pulled no punches towards the Red Devils on the night.
Scholes called out Michael Carrick’s Man Utd side in an X-rated social media post and the 51-year-old pundit was critical of the Red Devils’ recent performances.

Paul Scholes’ comments around former teammate Michael Carrick raised a few eyebrows after Man Utd’s setback against Newcastle in their Premier League clash.
Rio Ferdinand played down a Scholes vs Carrick ‘rivalry’ between the pair, while Patrice Evra called out Scholes for his immediate reaction on social media.
Scholes broke his silence on his Carrick criticism and the Manchester United legend insisted that he had directly reached out to the interim Red Devils head coach.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon, Carrick dismissed the criticism that Scholes made on his social media page about United’s display.
“There’s nothing to say about it really,” he said, as per the Manchester Evening News.
“I think that’s just where we are in terms of social media and things and captions and quotes and it can be taken in different ways.
“Calm about it and understand actually what the real meaning of things.”

Carrick made it clear that he did not make a “big deal” of what Scholes had said and admitted that opinions can be viewed on one extreme or the other.
“So, listen, there’s [sic] different opinions out there, you know, and it’s fine, people can have different opinions,” he added.
“It’s just things get taken way out of one extreme to the other and it is what it is, but I’m not worried about it. So, I don’t make a big deal of it either.”
Carrick was speaking with the media on Friday afternoon at the Carrington training complex ahead of Man Utd’s huge Premier League encounter with Aston Villa.
The Premier League clash between the Red Devils and Aston Villa is slated for a 2pm kick-off on Sunday in the UK.
