Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes is supporting Erik ten Hag, despite his dissatisfaction with the team’s performances.
Speaking to TNT Sports ahead of Manchester United’s match with Bayern Munich, Paul Scholes believes the Red Devils manager should stay.
There is extra speculation over Ten Hag’s future after a 3-0 loss to Bournemouth, coupled with a very tough run of fixtures.
Scholes said: “I don’t think the manager should be changed, he should be given time, we’ve seen some top-class managers come and go at this club and nothing has changed.
He added: “It’s right to stick with him.”

Scholes on Erik ten Hag future
Scholes explains that he believes changing managers is pointless, especially because he sees no standout candidates.
He said: “The manager is trying to do the right thing but he’s struggling to do it with the evidence we’re seeing on the football pitch.
“I don’t see anybody else out there who could do any better. I like him, he needs time to do what he has planned, but he’s got to get a move on with it.”
Scholes is right. Ten Hag does have to show some urgency, and there are questions creeping in from supporters over his tactics.
The concerns are legitimate, United can blame injuries, but many defeats are the result of questionable transfer strategies and high-risk tactics which play into opposition hands.
And then are are questions over the players who are simply not good enough.
Scholes’ concern over the lack of a credible replacement is one of the main reasons to stick by the Dutchman, providing results remain somewhat steady.
Who should be brought in? United have tried big names. Proven winners. Club legends. None of them have worked long-term. Who is out there and available that can get this team to transform into sudden title challengers? There is nobody.
You can keep rolling the dice until you find one that does, some clubs have succeeded that way. But at some stage you just have to back the manager and deal with the growing pains.
Ben Foster agrees
Speaking to The United Stand, former goalkeeper Ben Foster said: “I don’t agree with replacing Ten Hag, I don’t think that’s the way to go forward. It might have an effect for a game or two or three.
“The tone that’s set from the top of the club, it will just continue like it has done for the last few years.”
