Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes had a priceless reaction after one young fan told him that he hated two legendary players.

Paul Scholes spent his entire playing career at Manchester United across two separate spells and enjoyed incredible success under Sir Alex Ferguson.

The 49-year-old United legend emerged through the club’s youth academy and became one of the famed ‘Class of ‘92’ members who made a real name for himself.

Scholes lifted 11 Premier League titles, two Champions Leagues, three FA Cups and two League Cups during his illustrious playing career at Old Trafford.

The former England international was a linchpin midfield figure for Sir Alex Ferguson, who claimed Scholes was one of the four world-class players he managed.

Scholes initially announced his retirement from football in 2011 before he made a U-turn and returned to United in 2012.

The ex-United midfielder lifted the Premier League title in the 2012-13 season before bowing out of Old Trafford at the same time as Ferguson did.

Scholes stunned by Man Utd fan

Paul Scholes has actively taken part in punditry after his playing career and worked in other activities, including with the Manchester United Foundation.

The Manchester United Foundation posted a TikTok clip of Scholes speaking with fans and asking them who they prefer out of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Scholes played alongside Cristiano Ronaldo after the Portuguese forward was signed from Sporting CP in 2003, with the ex-United star enjoying huge success at the club.

The former Three Lions midfielder also crossed paths with Barcelona legend Lionel Messi while he played for United in the Champions League.

Both Ronaldo and Messi are often placed in heated debates over who is the best player of all time after their legendary accomplishments in the sport.

Speaking to young United fans, Scholes asked: “Who’s the best: Messi or Ronaldo? Ronaldo?”

One young fan near the front row could be heard telling Scholes that he surprisingly hates United legend Ronaldo and Barcelona icon Messi.

Scholes was initially stunned by the admission before the United legend hilariously brushed past the remarks with a casual response.

“You hate both?” Scholes responded, before adding: “Oh, right, fair enough.”

Another fan then told Scholes that he “hated” Messi, which prompted the former United midfielder to ask why he felt that way.

However, Scholes didn’t receive a response due to another child shouting out their admiration for Inter Miami superstar Messi.

Scholes to return to Man Utd action

Scholes’ work with the Manchester United Foundation is part of the former Red Devils star taking part in a ‘legends match’ on 7th September against Celtic.

Speaking about the upcoming match, he told Manchester United’s official website: “You pretend not to be [competitive] when you’re building up to it and during it but, of course, you want to win.

“It’s not the most important thing. The most important thing is raising as much money as we can, get as many fans as we can there for the Foundation, to help with all projects like this [school visit], like we’ve seen today.

“But, yeah, I’m sure, once we start playing, the competitive edge will come back.

“I’ve not played football since the Soccer Aid game, where I actually did my cruciate ligament.”
