The war of words between Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez and Paul Scholes has been reignited after the Manchester derby.

Before Saturday’s derby, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt mocked Lisandro Martinez ahead of him facing Erling Haaland at Old Trafford.

But Manchester United beat Manchester City 2-0 in emphatic fashion and Lisandro Martinez was easily one of the best players on the pitch.

Martinez silenced Scholes and Butt by doing his talking on the pitch, but he also made a comment about pundit criticism after the full-time whistle.

As quoted by The Athletic, Martinez said: “I told him already, if he wants to say something to me, he can come to wherever he wants, to my house, wherever. I don’t care.”

Paul Scholes responds to Lisandro Martinez criticism

The relationship between Martinez and Paul Scholes has been frosty for some time. Back in February, Martinez hit out at Scholes after he faced criticism from the United legend.

Martinez rightly defended himself after starring in the Manchester derby, but Scholes immediately took to social media to fire back a response of his own.

“Someone’s had a good game, was really happy for you… Tea, no sugar please Lisandro Martinez,” Scholes wrote on his Instagram story.

Scholes continues to add fuel to the fire between him and Martinez rather than praise his performance against United’s rivals.

Lisandro Martinez criticism is incredibly unfair

Martinez is a World Cup winner and one of the more experienced members of United’s squad. Since arriving from Ajax, he has immediately become a fan favourite and has lived up to his ‘Butcher’ nickname.

United fans raved about Martinez’s performance in the derby, praising his “warrior spirit”, aggression and intensity.

While Butt and Scholes mocked Martinez’s ability to handle Erling Haaland, the Argentine once again proved that he can keep him quiet.

Pep Guardiola has raved about Martinez in the past, yet for some reason he is still being underrated by two United legends.

When fit and at his best, Martinez is a world-class centre-back and he proved it in the derby.

Scholes continuing his war of words is not a good look, and it proves Martinez’s point that pundits are being critical for the sake of it rather than adding any constructive feedback.
