Paul Scholes shared an incredibly touching message with Andres Iniesta after the Barcelona and Spain legend called it time on his legendary playing career.
Andres Iniesta is widely regarded as one of the best midfielders of all time after his remarkable midfield trident with Xavi and Sergio Busquets at Barcelona.
During his time at the Camp Nou, the 40-year-old Spaniard made a whopping 674 appearances for Barcelona and he scored 57 times and registered 135 assists.
Iniesta lifted nine La Liga titles, four Champions Leagues and six Copa del Reys at the Camp Nou, having come through Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy.
The Barcelona legend’s spell at the Camp Nou came to an end in 2018 after he left the La Liga club and went on to play for Vissel Kobe and the Emirates Club.

Scholes’ message to Iniesta
Andres Iniesta spent five years with Vissel Kobe in Japan and lifted a J1 League title and an Emperor’s Cup (AKA Japan FA Cup) before he signed for the Emirates Club.
The former Barcelona captain found incredible success on the international stage with Spain after winning two European Championships and a World Cup.
Iniesta on Monday confirmed that his remarkable playing career had come to an end after his brief spell with UAE side Emirates.
The former Barcelona star was a key part of the two Pep Guardiola teams that beat Manchester United in the Champions League finals in 2009 and 2011.
Paul Scholes crossed paths with Iniesta in his legendary playing career and the United legend shared a powerful message with the Barcelona icon.
The 49-year-old former United and England midfielder took to Instagram Stories and called Iniesta “one of the very best” that there has ever been in football.

However, Scholes also hilariously poked fun at his encounters with the World Cup winner on the pitch and Iniesta didn’t ‘share the ball’ with him that much.
“Lucky to have shared the pitch a few times with one of the very best there has ever been… just wish he’d have shared the ball a bit more,” he wrote, tagging Iniesta’s handle and adding a heart emoji.
Barcelona legend Iniesta bowed out of football
Iniesta appeared at a media event in Barcelona earlier this week and the former Spain midfielder was emotionally moved after marking the end of his career.
“Please allow me to be a little emotional today […],” he said at a press conference, as per The Guardian.
“I never thought this day would come. I never imagined it. Yes, all these tears we have shed these days are tears of emotion, of pride. They are not tears of sadness.
“They are tears of that boy from a small town like Fuentealbilla, who had the dream of being a footballer and we achieved it after a lot of hard work, sacrifice […] of never giving up, essential values in my life.
“I feel very proud of this path, with all the people who have accompanied me.”
