Paul Scholes did not hesitate to reveal one of the major obstacles that Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is facing right now during his reign at Old Trafford.
Ruben Amorim arrived at Old Trafford last November and became the sixth permanent manager of the Red Devils since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement.
The 40-year-old Manchester United manager succeeded Erik ten Hag in the Red Devils dugout after his predecessor was sacked by the club last October.
Erik ten Hag was dismissed after United’s disastrous start to the 2024-25 Premier League season and Ruud van Nistelrooy temporarily took over as interim manager.
Ruud van Nistelrooy picked up three wins and one draw during his four-match spell at Old Trafford before the former United assistant manager exited Old Trafford in 2024.

Scholes’ clear-cut Man Utd point about Amorim
Ruben Amorim has endured a mixed start to life at Manchester United and the former Sporting CP boss has seen both the highs and lows at the club.
Manchester United languish in 12th place in the Premier League table and the Red Devils are 12 points adrift from the top four this season.
The Red Devils have managed only eight Premier League wins from 23 matches in the 2024-25 campaign and United are 13 points clear of the relegation zone.
However, Amorim has seen success in the Europa League so far and United have won their last four matches in the competition under the Portuguese and Ruud van Nistelrooy.
United could ensure their place in the last 16 of the Europa League on Thursday evening if they beat Romanian outfit FCSB in Bucharest.
Speaking on The Overlap, Red Devils legend Paul Scholes dropped his two cents on Amorim at United amid the fan discourse during the ‘Fan Debate Transfer Special.’
One member of the audience pointed to the problems that Mikel Arteta faced at Arsenal with different players before putting the Gunners on a new path.
However, Scholes suggested that United boss Amorim doesn’t face the same problem as Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta when it comes to “three” players.
The 50-year-old former United and England midfielder argued that Amorim is facing a much bigger issue with “about” 13 or 14 players in his first-team squad.
“The trouble Amorim’s got, though, is not just three of them,” Scholes said.
“You could be talking about 13, 14 [players] of them he doesn’t want.”
Amorim on Man Utd squad and transfers
Amorim is widely tipped to begin the process of overhauling his United squad in the summer and bringing in players that fit his tactical system and formation.
Marcus Rashford is among those on the chopping block and the United star has been linked with a January exit from Old Trafford after falling down the pecking order.
The 27-year-old United star has attracted interest from the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona, but Marcus Rashford’s future remains uncertain.
Speaking after the Europa League win over Rangers last week, Amorim remained cryptic on whether or not Rashford would stay at Old Trafford.
“I don’t know,” he told reporters at the time.
“I really don’t know [if he’ll stay]. Guys, it’s eight days, eight days until the end and then we will see at the end of the window and then we will talk about that in the moment.”
