Paul Scholes ‘big’ Luke Shaw claim rings true following Manchester United return

Manchester United ran out 3-0 winners against Everton in the Premier League.

An Alejandro Garnacho overhead kick opened the scoring, before second-half Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial goals secured all three points for Manchester United at Goodison Park.

Despite Garnacho’s goal-of-the-year contender, one Manchester United player stole the show if we’re regarding overall performance. That man was Kobbie Mainoo – who was simply insane for Erik ten Hag‘s side.

But there is one player who won’t necessarily get the plaudits, but was solid as a rock and will hopefully be present for all our upcoming fixtures, and that man is Luke Shaw.

Luke Shaw proves Paul Scholes right

Shaw returned from injury against Everton, playing his first game since August 19th 2023.

The established Englishman’s presence has been severely missed by United. Paul Scholes made a claim after the Luton Town match on just how important he is at Old Trafford.

He said: “Luke Shaw’s a big miss. He gives you real balance on the left-hand side. He gets you up the pitch with his pace. I think he’s been a huge miss.”

Shaw had one shot at goal, won one tackle, and made three clearances – but more importantly, gave Garnacho license to roam on that left-hand side without the fear of getting caught out.

I think we’ll realise going forward how big of a miss Shaw actually was – which is already ringing true following Sunday’s victory.

Luke Shaw, when fit, is a must for Erik ten Hag

There are a few players who should be playing every single week without fail for Manchester United.

Bruno Fernandes, Andre Onana, and of course if fit, Luke Shaw comes under this bracket. Shaw has been a world-class servant for the Red Devils and is almost part of the furniture now.
