There is another injury scare over Paul Pogba after he sat out Sunday’s training session for France.

Le Parisien report Pogba is suffering a ‘foot contusion’ and was not involved with Didier Deschamps group.

Pogba had played 89 minutes of France’s 2-1 friendly victory over Ivory Coast on Friday night.

The team are preparing for another friendly match at home to South Africa on Tuesday, and there is a possibility Pogba sits out, especially with Ngolo Kante rejoining the group and strengthening France’s midfield options.

Pogba is not listed in Le Parisien‘s ‘probable line-up’ for the fixture, although Manchester United teammate Raphael Varane is.

Varane was replaced in the 59th minute of the game on Friday, with Deschamps stating after the game that the defender has a ‘small problem with his foot.’

Le Parisien reports Varane’s problems is just ‘bruising’ and stated that Varane did train on Sunday in a limited capacity.

There is an expectation he recovers for Tuesday’s game, but William Saliba is ready to deputise if need be.

Not again

Both Varane and Pogba have picked up injuries for France already this season. Varane was injured in the UEFA Nations League semi-final in October and missed around a month of action for United.

Pogba got injured in a training session with France in November and did not return to action until February.

Last season, Anthony Martial suffered a knee injury in the March internationals which caused him to miss the rest of the season.

Pogba will hope this latest injury is not serious, even though in his own words to Le Figaro, this season is now ‘dead’ at Manchester United, with trophies now off the table.

He will still want to shake off his troublesome injury record and show potential suitors he can be relied upon, as he prepares to enter the summer looking for a lucrative contract as a free agent.
