Patrick Kluivert and Jaap Stam rave about Manchester United linked Antony

Brazil winger Antony is one of Europe’s most sought after players, and Manchester United hope Erik ten Hag can provide an edge in the race to sign him.

UOL Esporte this week claimed United have expressed an interest in Antony, claiming he is keen to leave Ajax for the Premier League.

While no bids have yet been submitted, Red Devils fans hope it is only a matter of time, with interest reported by The Telegraph back in March.

Antony is a fascinatingly exciting player to watch, with former Dutch internationals Patrick Kluivert and Jaap Stam talking him up in new interviews with Voetbal International.

Patrick Kluivert talks up Antony

Former Ajax striker Patrick Kluivert is a big fan of the Brazil international, and believes it won’t be long until he makes his big transfer.

Kluivert said: “Antony is a real Ajax attacker. His ball technique, the speed, the brutality in his often decisive actions: that’s how we like to see it in Amsterdam.

“Whether there are two or three men in his back, he demands the ball and is immediately threatening. He will never hide.

“I think it will not be long before Antony will make the step to a foreign top club.”

Jaap Stam weighs in

Kluivert’s comments were echoed by Manchester United legend Jaap Stam. He told VI.nl that while Antony can still improve, he has key traits which make him a top player.

Stam said: “From the purchases of the last few years, I like watching Antony’s game. Sometimes he exaggerates a bit in his actions and behavior, but he is a frivolous and unpredictable attacker, with speed and temperament in his game.”

Antony could play a big role at Old Trafford

Adding Antony into Manchester United’s attacking mix would be a big move, giving Cristiano Ronaldo additional support in the final third.

With Jadon Sancho on one wing and Antony on the other, United could pose a real headache for teams, especially if new manager Erik ten Hag can get the midfield right.

Ten Hag helped turn Antony into a star after signing him from Sao Paulo in 2020 as a teenager, and now he is a regular international for his country. He will know exactly how to get the best out of him at Old Trafford.

Kluivert and Stam’s comments have one key element in common, they like watching Antony. He is a real crowd-pleaser, and fans at Old Trafford need some of that after the season we have just endured.
