Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford scored his sixth goal of the season last night against Sheriff Tiraspol.

This was more than the low figure of just five he scored last season, and it feels like the forward’s career really is back on track.

The strike in the 3-0 win over Sheriff nudged him closer to a major milestone, it was his 99th goal in a Manchester United shirt.

‘Rashford could score 250 goals’

Rashford is close to the figure of 100, and former midfielder Owen Hargreaves believes he can go on to record a lot more.

Speaking to BT Sport at full-time, Hargreaves said: “I was blown away by the numbers there, 99 goals at 24, it’s amazing.

“By the time he’s finished he could have 250 goals for United.

“He’s just a quality player, everything’s there. I love his talent I really do. He just needs to be a little more consistent and the goals will fly in for him.”

Rashford came off the bench at half-time and played on the right, although was given freedom to roam around, scoring his goal from the left side of the penalty area.

His goal was a header, expertly taken after a cross from Luke Shaw. Not many of his 99 goals have come with his head, so that will be a pleasing element for him.

Rashford is anxiously waiting to learn if he has made it into the England squad for the World Cup, and this goal might be one which helps to seal the deal.

Wayne Rooney is Manchester United’s club record goalscorer with 253 goals. Cristiano Ronaldo ranks joint 13th after last night with 145.
