Manchester United’s hope to sign Aurelien Tchouameni will depend on Real Madrid’s own plans.
It is too early to judge Manchester United’s transfer window right now, with six weeks before the season begins, and another fortnight before the deadline.
Aurelien Tchouameni is the club’s top target, with Spanish newspaper AS reporting that the club intend to advance with negotiations.
Ultimately the deal would depend on Real Madrid and their own plans.
Tchouameni is not the type of player you allow to leave without a top class replacement lined up. So who could Jose Mourinho be tracking?
Real have already ruled out a move for Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez – but there are two players they are interested in.
How much should Man Utd pay to sign Aurelien Tchouameni? What would you consider a fair fee?
Do you think he would be the right fit for Man Utd?
Option 1: Nico Paz
The first option is a player with a complicated transfer history, Como midfielder Nico Paz.
- 2016: Joined Real Madrid youth academy
- 2023: Debuted for Real Madrid first-team
- 2024: Transferred permanently to Como
- 2026: Agreed to stay at Como, with future buy-back clause
Real Madrid can enact a buy-back clause for Nico Paz from 2027, at a price of €80m.
Madrid could allow Tchouameni to leave this summer with a view to signing Paz in 12 months, while finding a stop-gap option or working with their current array of talent.

Option 2: Rodri
The second option is a long-rumoured move to sign Spain international Rodri from Manchester City.
When he was quizzed about a move to Real Madrid at the start of the summer, Rodri simply told ESPN that he would re-assess his future after the World Cup.
The timing for his exit makes sense. Pep Guardiola has just left City, and Rodri could follow Bernardo Silva to the Bernabeu.
He could take up a new challenge back in Spain, with City already signing his possible replacement rather than his partner in Elliot Anderson.
This is the scenario Manchester United should see as the most attractive one if it frees up a move for Aurelien Tchouameni.
Real Madrid could weaken City with a major transfer for Rodri, while strengthening United with a sale of the France international.
Ultimately we won’t be too fussy who Real sign if it frees up a move for Tchouameni – but if it is Rodri, then it would be a fantastic bonus.
