One Manchester United player has been selected in the BBC team of the season.

And it was not the newly crowned Manchester United player of the season Marcus Rashford.

It was summer signing Casemiro who was named in the XI, selected by BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks.

Casemiro signed for United last summer and has been integral in turning the team’s fortunes around.

Casemiro in BBC team of the season

Brazil international captain Casemiro has made a vital contribution for Manchester United since his move from Real Madrid.

The five-times Champions League winner settled instantly in the Premier League and has helped provide stability to Manchester United’s midfield.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Crooks said: “He gives everything for the team. In fact Casemiro did the one thing Ronaldo couldn’t do and that was take United back into the Champions League. A world-class player with a reputation to match.”

Crooks also added that Casemiro saved United when the club was in freefall, which wasn’t exactly true. United beat Liverpool and Arsenal at Old Trafford without the Brazilian in the starting line-up.

But there is no denying the huge impact Casemiro has made, with United producing consistent home form which has helped secure a third placed finish.

The praise follows Gary Neville recently lauding Casemiro as the ‘signing of the season’.

The midfielder appears to be loving life as a Manchester United player, embracing the new challenge after leaving Real Madrid. And the hope is that next season, he gets even better.
