Manchester United’s Europa League opponents Omonia Nicosia have suffered an important injury blow ahead of their match at Old Trafford.

Their goalkeeper Fabiano Freitas is expected to miss the fixture, according to United’s club website.

He is dealing with a shoulder injury sustained in Omonia’s 1-0 defeat to AEL Limassol at the weekend.

Omonia suffer injury blow

Fabiano was excellent in Omonia’s defeat to Manchester United last week in Cyprus.

He kept the score down, managing to frustrate Cristiano Ronaldo in particular, who was unable to find the scoresheet.

Neil Lennon, Omonia boss, confirmed Fabiano’s absence, quoted by The Scotsman: “Our goalkeeper (Fabiano) who played very well last week is not playing because of injury but hopefully our goalkeeper tomorrow has an inspired game.

United won last week’s Europa League fixture 3-2, with two goals from Marcus Rashford and one from Anthony Martial.

Martial has been ruled out of the game with his own injury, suffered against Everton, manager Erik ten Hag confirmed.

Omonia goalkeeper Fabiano previously played for Porto and Fenerbahce, beginning his career with Sao Paulo.

His stand-in is expected to be Constantinos Panagi, 28, who is a Cyprus international with 20 caps.

He has been at Omonia his whole career, but has not been a regular since the 2016/17 season and has only served as a back-up since.

Omonia have lost five of their last seven matches in all competitions and Manchester United are heavy favourites to win at Old Trafford on Thursdauy night.
