Ole Gunnar Solskjaer names the two current Man Utd players who would survive under Sir Alex Ferguson

Manchester United has overseen a lot of change since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013, and not much of it can be considered good.

It has been 12 years since Manchester United last tasted Premier League glory, and in that time, there have been continuous new lows, with the quality of the squad paling in comparison to some of the greats.

Despite there still being some atrocious footballers in the squad right now, there are also some real positives.

How would you rate Manchester United’s season after 11 Premier League games?

Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo look like United players, passing Sir Alex Ferguson’s biggest test for a player to perform at Anfield, as they did in the 2-1 win.

But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says only two current United players would have survived under the legendary manager.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Sir Alex Ferguson would have liked two current players

Ferguson won 38 trophies in 27 years, going down as the greatest manager in the history of the game.

In this time, he coached some of the best players in the world, but for former United player and manager Solskjaer, two players in Ruben Amorim’s team would be able to survive in that era.

Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast alongside Gary Neville, Solskjaer named them.

“Well, for me, I can only speak about the ones that I’ve worked with. And you look at Bruno, he’d survive, he’d fight you probably, and definitely you (Neville and Keane) and Harry, I’m sure Harry would survive, definitely.”

Solskjaer picking two of the only players left from his time in charge is no shock; however, he is right in that the two members of Amorim’s leadership group would have been capable of playing in Sir Alex’s side.

Reinforcing Solskjaer’s belief, Michael Carrick also claimed Fernandes could have played in the Sir Alex era, a sentiment which Bruno Fernandes agreed with.

Manchester United’s current squad has several players Sir Alex Ferguson would love

For years, United have had a squad that failed to stack up against the rest of the league, but now there is some serious talent at the club.

Cunha and Mbeumo would both be players Sir Alex would love and could definitely use, given both are excellent footballers and also work extremely hard.

Matthijs de Ligt has been immense this season, and his form right now would be good enough to play for United under Sir Alex.

Additionally, Senne Lammens has earned Peter Schmeichel comparisons, which suggests he’d impress Sir Alex, and Kobbie Mainoo would have been made key already by the manager.

This squad is the best United has had in years, and several players could potentially survive Sir Alex’s era, but they need to win something to prove this true.
