Manchester United’s search for a new goalkeeper this summer appears to have one likely outcome in the form of Senne Lammens.

One of the positions that fans were hoping to see strengthened this summer was always the goalkeeper position, with Andre Onana far from locking down the position last season with his many blunders in goal.

As a result, Onana’s future was uncertain at times this summer, although ultimately Manchester United look unable to sell him.

Onana wants to stay at United and to prove himself, having likely let himself down at times. The Cameroon international has backing from Edwin van der Sar who says Onana will improve, urging head coach Ruben Amorim to stick with him.

Now, with a big money goalkeeper such as Emiliano Martinez looking like an unlikely signing, United are looking at cheaper, potentially second choice goalkeepers to arrive and challenge for the starting spot.

Senne Lammens has emerged as United’s number one choice, with a transfer thought to be progressing well.

Senne Lammens has scored a header before just like Peter Schmeichel

Lammens would be a super signing for Manchester United, having established himself to be one of the very shot stoppers in Europe.

The Belgian is excellent with his hands and would be a huge upgrade on paper if he was able to translate his ability to the Premier League.

However, he also has a suprising talent for heading in his locker, having scored a header for Club Brugge against Real Madrid in the UEFA Youth League.

This is a rare ability for a goalkeeper, representing that he boasts excellent aerial ability, and is something that is very unique within a number one.

Lammens’ scoring would have impressed Peter Schmeichel who of course scored for Manchester United in the UEFA Cup against Rotor Volgograd to salvage a 2-2 draw back in 1995.

This isn’t a quality Lammens would be signed for, as chances are it will never be repeated by the 6ft 4in goalkeeper.

How does Senne Lammens compare with Andre Onana?

Last season in the Belgian Pro League, Lammens was a force of nature, preventing a whopping 15.6 goals over the course of the season which was third among all of Europe’s top 10 leagues, as SofaScore revealed.

Lammens also ranked very highly for save percentage, high claims and was the best at saving penalties in Europe, all of which is much better than Andre Onana.

Onana could be in real trouble if United sign Lammens, who is a young and hungry talent showing signs that he can become a sensation.
