Treble winner Nicky Butt has warned Manchester United that a move for Harry Kane will not solve the club’s problems.
Speaking against the backdrop of the ongoing battle for the ownership of Manchester United, Butt warns that whoever is in charge, must have the right philosophy.
Butt, who worked in the academy during the Ed Woodward era, has experienced United’s haphazard strategy, or lack of, at close quarters.
He has warned that any new, or remaining owners, must not chase star signings as a fix, using Harry Kane as an example due to the club’s big need for a striker.

Former Manchester United midfielder Nicky Butt says the club must have a proper strategy, rather than just ‘sign Harry Kane’.
He told ESPN: “I think the biggest thing for United now, whether the owners stay or new owners come in, is that they have to fundamentally look at the foundations of the club.
“There’s no point buying a Harry Kane and then saying that’s going to do us for four years because it’s just a sticking plaster over a gaping wound.
“And the gaping wounds are they’re because, fundamentally, there has to be an infrastructure put in place where they can have a base to work from.”
Kane has been linked to Manchester United, via The Times, who reported in March that Tottenham want £100 million for the striker.
United do need a centre-forward, but just this week, Nemanja Vidic said he would avoid Kane and look at a longer term solution, who can last six to seven years at least.
It’s plainly obvious United do need more than just Kane, although Erik ten Hag is already very aware of this. Providing he is supported in the market this summer, he will continue to steer the club in the right direction, and there is no chance of the Dutchman being complacent.
