One piece of skill from Antony has got the English press in a real spin.
Not content with lambasting the Manchester United star on commentary for BT Sport after a 360 spin move, Robbie Savage saw fit to write an entire newspaper column for The Mirror adding to the criticism.
Following criticism from Paul Scholes on BT, and er, Ian Holloway on Sky Sports, the press have been queuing up to rip into the superstar – and Graeme Souness has not even got started yet.
Antony responded with a message yesterday vowing, ‘I won’t stop’, pledging to continue to show his personality on the football pitch. Rightly so. Now he has some backing.
Neymar sends message to Antony
Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar is the talisman of the Brazil team, and a player Antony has been compared to.
The skilful star has always fought to express himself on the pitch amid his own critics and he is standing up for Antony,his international teammate.
Posting a message on his Instagram story reel, he wrote: “Keep it up, change nothing! Boldness and joy.”
Neymar’s message was a powerful one, which represents the belief among Brazilian players that they must fight to express themselves and never change, for anybody.
While Manchester United fans naturally want Antony’s skills to make an impact, they frequently do, and the criticism from pundits was way over the top.
Antony’s vow to keep on showing his individuality is what we want to hear, and Neymar’s backing will give him further reason to continue.
