Manchester United are being linked with Sam Jewell but Newcastle United may now target him to replace Dan Ashworth.

Ineos mean business and the move to lure incoming CEO Omar Berrada from Manchester City was jut the start.

The next priority will be landing a sporting director and there is only one name seriously in the mix right now.

Newcastle United’s Dan Ashworth is the man Ineos want and reports indicate that the move is progressing at some pace.

The Magpies are seeking around £10million for Ashworth and may make life difficult for United by forcing him to go through a lengthy period of gardening leave.

Sam Jewell fight on

Newcastle will be looking at potential replacements for Ashworth and one potential move could spoil a United plan.

The Sun report that Newcastle are interested in Brighton and Hove Albion’s Sam Jewell.

Jewell is ‘fancied’ inside Newcastle and could be in line for the top job at St James’ Park.

Ashworth is understood to be a keen admirer of Jewell and may move to lure him to Old Trafford in a key recruitment role.

The problem is that Newcastle may throw a spanner in the works and leave Ashworth disappointed.

Don’t forget about Chelsea

Jewell – the son of former Wigan Athletic boss Paul Jewell, pictured above with Sir Alex Ferguson – is a man in demand.

The 34-year-old has impressed as Brighton’s head of recruitment and has been hailed as a ‘big talent’ by Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi.

Reports just a few days ago suggested that Chelsea are moving for Jewell out of real fear that he will join Ashworth at United.

Jewell will have plenty to think about; staying and continuing his journey at Brighton isn’t out of the question.

United and Chelsea would likely offer roles in which Jewell reports to a director above him, whereas Newcastle may offer him more control.

That just goes to show the regard Jewell is held in and Ashworth will be hoping to serve Newcastle with another dose of disappointment by winning the way for his services.
