Manchester United continue to push forward with a move for Newcastle United’s Dan Ashworth but now face paying around £10million.
Ineos have only just had their investment approved by both The FA and the Premier League but the excitement is growing and growing.
Manchester City’s Omar Berrada has already agreed to become United’s new CEO and more moves are in the pipeline.
Southampton director of football Jason Wilcox is being lined up or an important role at the club, reporting to the new sporting director.
That position has not yet been filled but there is only one major name in the mix right now – Dan Ashworth.
Newcastle United asking price for Dan Ashworth
Reports indicate that United have now made an approach to land Ashworth and he has told Newcastle that an offer is on the table.
Ashworth is understood to be keen on the move to Old Trafford having not received the level of power and control he anticipated at Newcastle.
The problem is that Newcastle don’t just want to see Ashworth walk out and join a direct Premier League rival.
With that in mind, the London Evening Standard now claim that Newcastle want more than £10million for Ashworth’s services.
The Magpies are ‘confident’ that they can demand such a price tag and may even put Ashworth on gardening leave.
That would delay Ashworth’s arrival at United and there may be a temptation to offer even more money to try and tempt Newcastle into letting him leave immediately.
This is not an ideal situation but Ashworth is a top-class operator and clearly the first choice for Ineos, so we could well see a major eight-figure deal emerge in the coming days.

Ashworth would cost more than some players – and even Erik ten Hag
That price tag of at least £10million means that Ashworth could end up costing even more than some players in the United squad.
Of course, there are free transfers such as Christian Eriksen and Jonny Evans as well as youth products like Marcus Rashford, Scott McTominay and Kobbie Mainoo, who didn’t cost a transfer fee per se.
Goalkeeper Altay Bayindir only cost United around £4.3million though and winger Alejandro Garnacho was a £420,000 bargain in 2020.
Loaned-out Hannibal Mejeri was a £9.3million addition and Newcastle may hope to take the fee for Ashworth up to around £13million – the price United paid for Tyrell Malacia.
Ashworth will also cost much, much more than Erik ten Hag, who was lured from Ajax for £1.6million thanks to a buyout clause, with assistant Mitchell van der Gaag’s arrival taking a double deal to around £2.5million.
This kind of price tag shows just how highly Ashworth is regarded and United may well be willing to pay the big money to get the future spearhead of the club on board.
