Marcus Rashford came off the bench for England against Ghana for a late cameo appearance.
After being left out of the starting line-up for Anthony Gordon in consecutive matches at the 2026 World Cup, Marcus Rashford was overlooked until the 83rd minute.
It was too late for Rashford to have an impact on the game, with England looking toothless in attack against a disciplined Ghana side.
The press in England has been reacting to the performance, with some outlets calling for Rashford to start the final group game against Panama on Saturday night.

Press in England rate Marcus Rashford’s performance against Croatia
It doesn’t bode well for Rashford that Gordon keeps getting ahead of him in the England team, after the former Newcastle winger completed a transfer to Barcelona ahead of the World Cup.
Gordon has struggled in England’s opening two matches at the tournament. Now, questions are being asked about whether Rashford deserves to reclaim his place in Thomas Tuchel’s side.
Rashford earned a 6/10 rating from Sky Sports despite having ‘little time to make the same impact’ that he had against Croatia.
BBC Sport gave Rashford the same 6/10 rating for the few “bright moments” he offered during his short cameo appearance.
The Guardian shared the same rating but acknowledged that Rashford ‘looked frustrated’ after coming off the bench.
However, the highest rating for Rashford came from The Independent, awarding the England sub a 7/10 and questioning why he was not introduced earlier.
The Sun also gave Rashford 6/10 for his performance against Ghana.

Thomas Tuchel urged to start Marcus Rashford over Anthony Gordon
If the newspapers weren’t piling pressure on Tuchel to make changes to his team, with many calling for Rashford to start, the Three Lions boss’s decisions are also dominating the airwaves.
Former Tottenham midfielder and talkSPORT host Jamie O’Hara called for Gordon to be dropped by Tuchel going forward and pointed out that ‘Rashford has to start’.
“Gordon was poor,” O’Hara said on The Sports Bar.
“I don’t care what anyone says. He was poor, nowhere near it and he’s got to be better. Marcus Rashford has to start.
“I know there was talk about Rashford having a niggle or whatever, but he’s come on and made a big impact.
“You can’t start Gordon over Rashford. Rashford is a better player than Gordon.”
