MUTV pundits stunned by what FCSB players did outside Man Utd dressing room after the game, ‘If I’d been the manager…’

Manchester United’s player earned a win over FCSB with a strong second half performance, with a little more ruthlessness than the first.

Kobbie Mainoo should have put Manchester United ahead in the first half against FCSB, before responding brilliantly in the second 45 minutes. Mainoo provided an assist for Diogo Dalot’s opener, before scoring United’s second.

It was a third victory in a row for United, with the team finishing third in the Europa League, avoiding an double-legged play-off knockout round.

Finishing in the top eight has also secured an extra £500,000 bonus in prize money, with revenue always important against the club’s financial backdrop.

United were on cruise control by the end of the game, and the fight of the FCSB players was questioned afterwards.

During MUTV’s post-match review, presenter Liam Bradford noted how FCSB’s players were hanging around Manchester United’s dressing room 15-20 minutes after full-time, looking to meet and possibly grab selfies with the Red Devils’ players.

He noted: “That’s an indication of where their mindset was at, because they didn’t show a great account of themselves. We’ve controlled the game from minute one, basically and thoroughly deserving the victory. Do you think they were really at it?”

Former academy player Ben Thornley responded with his view: “If I’d have been the manager of that side…

“Seeing how the players reacted to number one, a defeat, but number two, the fact that they had an opportunity to overturn Manchester United today, leap above in the table and have that chance of automatic qualification, and you’ve seen just them hanging around here… that seems to be the most important thing.”

FCSB missed out on a top eight place courtesy of the defeat, finishing in 11th place, one point outside the top spots.

FCSB defender Mihai Popescu admitted his players had been off their game, expressing some surprise at just how good United were, indicating they have been over-awed.

He told Sport.ro: “A tough match. We faced a great team, with tradition. Extraordinary atmosphere, unfortunately, that’s all we could do. If we had scored in the first half, things would have been different. But we gave it our all on the field.

“They surprised us because they have quality players and they showed that on the field.”
