Manchester United returned from the international break with a victory, defeating Brentford 2-1.
You couldn’t describe this as ‘Manchester United return with a bang’, instead there was a sense of relief rather than pure elation when the final whistle blew at Old Trafford on Saturday.
In late October, this was just United’s third league victory of the season. And it was the first time the team had scored a league goal at home since the opening game.

Alejandro Garnacho praised
Manchester United’s goals came from Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund, with the young forwards netting both in the second half.
Alejandro Garnacho’s performance was subject of plenty of discussion on MUTV’s Matchday Review, following the 2-1 victory.
Former defender Wes Brown picked Garnacho as his man of the match, adding: “He was very good today. When he gets the ball in certain positions he has got one thing on his mind, attack the defender and get a shot or a cross. Tremendous.
“There is a lot of pressure on the team, he is definitely one who stepped up.”
Brown also praised Garnacho’s play off the ball too, commenting: “He has learned to do his defensive work very well, he has a lot of energy and he is willing to run and do it.”
Danny Webber was also impressed with the Argentine. He agreed that Garnacho should be the pick for man of the match, adding: “Garnacho was relentless in the way he went forward.”
Ben Thornley also commended the way Garnacho scored his goal, adding: “You see those skied over. He controlled it brilliantly with the power as well.”
Garnacho was man of the match
Manchester United fans voted Garnacho as man of the match with 56 per cent of the vote.
The strike took Garnacho up to five goals for the season. He also has three assists.
Last season Garnacho ended up with 10 goals in all competitions. To be halfway there by mid-October is showing clear progress, despite United’s overall lack of goals.
If the team around him can start delivering, then Garnacho’s own numbers will continue to rise even more sharply.
