Manchester United had the last laugh in the victory over Manchester City with two late goals.

For 88 minutes it was looking like it might not be Manchester United’s day.

There have been games where United have been to the Etihad and been passed off the pitch, where you just hope for the final whistle to blow.

This was not one of them. While City had the advantage, they were not very good, and rode their luck.

City’s opening goal came via a deflected cross, and United should have had a penalty when Rasmus Hojlund was fouled in the box by Ruben Dias. There was no debate about the foul on Amad late in the game.

You suspected it might be ‘one of those days’ before the late turnaround, while one of the bitterest moments saw Kyle Walker feign injury and try to get Rasmus Hojlund sent off.

Kyle Walker embarrassed himself

Kyle Walker embarrassed himself by throwing himself to the floor after touching heads with Rasmus Hojlund during a brief exchange.

While the moment had Gary Neville producing a ‘oooooh’ on commentary for Sky Sports, replays quickly vindicated Hojlund from any wrongdoing.

It was a relief, because Manchester United fans have seen players sent off for far less.

Walker’s actions were pathetic and will be painful for him to watch back.

And his failed attempts to get his opponent sent off made Manchester United’s win even sweeter.

Kyle Walker actions mocked

Former Manchester United academy talent Ben Thornley spoke after the game to discuss the win on MUTV, and expressed how glad he was to see Walker end up on the losing team.

Thornley said: “It’s huge. It really is huge because you didn’t want it to be three, especially against United’s neighbours. And do you know what I think back to what Kyle Walker did in that first half, ‘cheats never prosper’, as far as I’m concerned.

“And that’s exactly what he tried to do. He tried to get Rasmus Hojlund and sent off.”

Referencing the television cameras zooming in on Walker at the end, he added: “So I’m glad we had a close up of how disappointed he was to be losing that game.”

Hojlund poked fun at Walker after the game, calling out his Oscar worthy piece of acting, that left both players with a yellow card.
