Lisandro Martinez makes impact
Lisandro Martinez now has two goals and two assists for Manchester United this season, all coming under Ruben Amorim.
His goals have come against Liverpool and now Fulham, with assists versus Manchester City and Rangers.
Is there a reason for his increased production? Yes. It’s all down to Ruben Amorim.
MUTV pundit Ben Thornley told the channel his belief that the head coach’s tactics allows Martinez more freedom.
Thornley explained: “When you play in this system, you do have the license as a central defender to be able to step in, when the team has [possession] further up the pitch.
“He’s given us the three points, and that is absolutely vital.”
Thornley makes the point that Martinez can get into midfield and the final third more freely, knowing he still has two centre-backs behind him covering.

Three at the back benefits United
Manchester United have a proliferation of quality centre-backs, with Lisandro Martinez, Harry Maguire, Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro.
And then when fit, there are Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans in reserve too.
The three-man defensive system certainly helps make selection a little easier for Amorim, but we are also seeing how it benefits the players on the pitch too as they adjust.
Giving Martinez more time on possession to step up and impact the game offensively is one of the benefits, he is an excellent passer, as he has demonstrated with match-winning assists.
Now his goal at Fulham has been worth an extra three points to United, and he’s topped it off with a clean sheet too, the team’s first in 14 games in all competitions.
