Manchester United youngster Alejandro Garnacho has been praised for his impressive role in the team’s win over Aston Villa.

Alejandro Garnacho scored two goals in Manchester United’s victory over Aston Villa, sparking a memorable Boxing Day comeback.

Garnacho was voted as man of the match, even managing to overshadow Rasmus Hojlund scoring the winner for his first ever Premier League goal.

The teenager was playing on the right wing, a tactical shift which could solve long-term problem position for Manchester United. It is a tactic fans want to see a lot more of.

Garnacho epitomised Manchester United win

Alejandro Garnacho did not let his head drop when the team went 2-0 down, nor when his first goal of the night was ruled out for offside. If anything it made him even more determined.

The teenager’s performance was praised by MUTV pundit Ben Thornley, who told The Debate that Garnacho is a player who gives supporters what they want to see.

He said: “I’ve said it for a while now, in the Premier League over the years, the Premier League has actually evolved, you don’t see many out-and-out traditional wingers. One thing every supporter loves to see, that we all love to see, is a winger squaring up a full-back and running at him and going again and again.

“His performance epitomised the whole team, a contrast of what we saw against West Ham to what we saw in the second half against Aston Villa. Everybody ran and ran and ran, and the difference between what you can achieve when you do that, is vast.

“Garnacho was brilliant. To say he single-handedly did it [is wrong], yes he scored two of the goals and he had a fantastic performance, but I think everybody in that second half ran until they dropped.”

Garnacho is making strong progress

Garnacho is now up to five goals for the season, just one below top scorers Scott McTominay and Rasmus Hojlund.

Whether he is on the left or right, he has proven he can make an impact, and that he can bounce back stronger from setbacks.

He is dealing with a huge amount of pressure playing for a club like Manchester United, and he is stepping up when more experienced players cannot.

As Thornley points out, his style of play gets supporters onside, and when he mixes more goals and assists into his game, he can really go up a level and take a step towards becoming one of the club’s greats.
