Michael Carrick satisfied after scoreless draw against Sunderland

Manchester United were held to a point away at Sunderland, but Michael Carrick was satisfied with the result, acknowledging how difficult it can be at the Stadium of Light.

It looked like some of the players – for both sides – were in holiday mode. Sunderland are happy to have survived their first season in the Premier League, while Manchester United have qualified for the Champions League.

United were held to a scoreless draw against Sunderland, in a game that was played at a slow pace, but both teams lacked a cutting edge.

Sunderland were able to prevent United from doing the Premier League double over them, after the Red Devils secured three points at Old Trafford earlier this season.

What is your MESSAGE to Michael Carrick after Man Utd’s draw with Sunderland?

Michael Carrick happy with a point from trip to Sunderland

United and Sunderland shared the spoils in a goalless Premier League encounter.

The hosts started the game brightly, but Brian Brobbey wasn’t potent enough inside the box, though he made hard work for Lisandro Martinez throughout the match.

Carrick was happy to come away from the Stadium of Light with a point, fully aware that Sunderland have a strong home record.

“It’s a tough place to come,” Carrick told Premier League Productions after the match.

“They’ve had a good record here all season. We’ll take the point, a clean sheet is always good to get.

“We’ve scored a lot of goals this season, it’s just one of those games. A decent enough point and we nearly won it at the end.”

It would also be wrong to overlook how United achieved a season objective by getting back into the Champions League last week.

Carrick maintains that he still wants to finish the season strongly, saying: “We gave everything this week. We’ve got our last home game of the season that we will work towards this week.

“We look forward to it. It’s important to finish the season strong and I think today is a positive note for us.”

Michael Carrick happy with attitude

Carrick made five changes to his United line-up that beat Liverpool 3-2 last Sunday.

When asked about those changes, he added: “It’s one game. It’s the time of the season. We’ve done a lot of good work and some changes today and I thought the attitude to the boys was really good.

“Today is a positive result in terms of the point. Was it going to be a perfect game? We weren’t expecting a perfect game.

“It is what it is. It’s not something we need to overthink and it’s hard to be negative.”
