Michael Carrick has made Roy Keane’s Man Utd prediction look embarrassingly bad

Roy Keane made a prediction for Manchester United’s 2025/26 finishing prediction before the season started.

The 3-2 victory over Liverpool means that Manchester United have secured Champions League qualification for the 2026/27 campaign.

There is still something to play for in the final three Premier League matches for Michael Carrick’s side to secure a third-place finish.

United were sixth when Ruben Amorim was sacked, so Carrick deserves huge credit for the resurgence in form in the second half of the season.

Roy Keane’s Man Utd prediction now looks terrible

After the 15th-placed finish last season, optimism and ambition were at an all-time low around United’s hopes this season.

But Roy Keane predicted United to finish ninth “at best” and even said he would be “surprised” if United even challenged for the top six.

Roy Keane was clearly very pessimistic about United’s chances this season, but Carrick has hugely exceeded all expectations.

For a brief moment, there was even talk of United in a title race under Carrick. Without the poor start to the season, it could have been a reality.

Are Roy Keane’s concerns valid? Or is he just adding needless negativity to the Michael Carrick debate?

Man United are not that far away from a title challenge

It is no secret that Ineos want to win the Premier League by 2028, and while that seemed an extremely ambitious target to set in a season where United finished 15th, it suddenly seems very achievable.

Carrick has restored all confidence in this United squad, and he has built huge momentum heading into the 2026/27 season.

Squad leaders such as Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire are pressuring Ineos to spend big in the summer when United are expected to rebuild their midfield.

Another good transfer window could truly put United in the picture for a title challenge.

However, balancing a title push with European football and cup competitions could prove to be difficult.
