The Red Devils defender has become a key part of Ruben Amorim’s tactical system for United, with De Ligt effortlessly playing in the manager’s three-man backline.
De Ligt was a commanding presence against Chelsea on Saturday evening and the former Ajax and Juventus star earned praise from United fans for his performance.
The Netherlands international oozed composure with his defensive display and De Ligt was incredibly unfortunate not to have secured a clean sheet on the weekend.

Manchester United defeated 10-man Chelsea 2-1 in the Premier League, despite the Red Devils being reduced to 10 men themselves in the first half at Old Trafford.
Robert Sanchez received a straight red card for Chelsea in the opening five minutes, while Casemiro was dismissed for United in injury time in the first half of the tie.
United were 2-0 up against Chelsea at half-time after Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring from close range at Old Trafford before Casemiro netted with a header.
Matthijs de Ligt took to Instagram after Saturday’s 2-1 win and the Netherlands defender sent out a clear-cut – and powerful – message to United supporters.
The former Bayern Munich star wrote: “Big fight, big win!”
Fernandes was spotted in the comments of De Ligt’s Instagram post and the 31-year-old United captain’s assessment of his performance couldn’t be clearer.
“Class,” he simply said, adding a muscle-flexing emoji.

De Ligt started the Chelsea match in the three-man backline alongside Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw, with the United trio all impressing at Old Trafford.
Luke Shaw played as the left-sided centre-back for United, while Harry Maguire took the central role and De Ligt was stationed on the right in Ruben Amorim’s system.
Maguire was the only one of the aforementioned defenders who did not see out the full 90 minutes against Chelsea, with the ex-United captain making way in the second half.
United manager Amorim subbed off the 32-year-old England international in the 70th minute and brought on Leny Yoro for the remainder of the Premier League tie.
