Matheus Cunha is set to become the first major signing of Manchester United’s summer rebuild.

After enduring a terrible 2024/25 campaign, Ineos have wasted no time getting started with Manchester United’s transfer business.

Matheus Cunha is set to undergo a medical at Carrington before completing a £62.5 million deal to join Ruben Amorim’s side.

Ruben Amorim hinted at the Cunha deal being completed soon, and with the transfer window set to open in just three days, United fans shouldn’t have long to wait.

Wolves fans are sad to see Cunha leave, which is great news for United. The Brazilian will immediately add extra firepower and creativity to this United side that has struggled in front of goal.

Matheus Cunha given brilliant football nickname during childhood

Ahead of his move to Old Trafford, Cunha has spoken highly of Amorim and the 25-year-old appears to be a perfect fit for his 3-4-2-1 style of play.

United need Cunha to share some of the creative responsibility with captain Bruno Fernandes, and ease the pressure of scoring from striker Rasmus Hojlund.

With 15 goals and six assists for Wolves this season, it seems Cunha ticks all of the boxes.

According to The Athletic, Cunha was given the nickname “Neymar” during his childhood years due to sharing a similar style of play with the Brazilian legend.

When asked about the nickname, Cunha replied: “My game is similar to his. I like to dribble, I can shoot with both feet. I play in attack.”

Matheus Cunha can elevate to Neymar levels at Man United

After completing his takeover at Old Trafford, Sir Jim Ratcliffe explained he wanted to sign the ‘next Mbappe’ rather than splashing the cash on big name stars.

Cunha has already proven himself to be an extremely talented Premier League player, but at 25 years old he still has plenty of time to improve and fulfil his potential.

Just two years after United were linked with signing Neymar from Paris Saint-Germain, Ineos have put their strategy into action by trying to sign the next Neymar instead.

Cunha’s stats prove he has been improving season upon season, and a big move to Old Trafford could help him elevate his game to a new level.

With no European football next season, United’s full focus will be on the Premier League and that is a competition where Cunha has thrived.
