Matheus Cunha scored the all-important equaliser to earn Manchester United a point from their trip to face Leeds United.

Manchester United fell behind in Yorkshire to Brenden Aaronson’s goal, but Matheus Cunha scored his fourth goal of the season just three minutes later.

Pundits raved about Cunha’s performance at Elland Road, with the Brazilian playmaker also having one goal disallowed as well as one shot bounce off the outside of the post.

SHOULD Matheus Cunha’s disallowed goal vs Leeds have stood?🤔

Mark Clattenburg explains to United in Focus why the goal was ruled offside…

“The offside flag was raised to disallow the goal as Sesko was in an offside position.

“If Sesko had not gone to challenge his opponent for the ball even though he did not touch it, he clearly affected the defender’s ability to play the ball with contact being made, then a goal may have been awarded.”

Considering that Cunha had his worst display against Wolves last week, it was a much-improved performance from the 26-year-old, and it came at a time when United needed experienced players to step up.

Matheus Cunha sends inspirational message after Leeds draw

After the full-time whistle, Cunha praised Joshua Zirkzee for his performance, and the Brazilian was keen to give his teammates their flowers.

Cunha then took to social media to send a passionate message to fans.

Via Instagram, Cunha said: “It was an intense fight today. We continue for more. Sure.”

Zirkzee was quick to reply to the post, writing: “Crack”, which is often used as Portuguese slang for “exceptional”.

Matheus Cunha is stepping up for Man United

With captain Bruno Fernandes still sidelined with a hamstring injury, United are lacking in creativity in the No.10 positions.

Patrick Dorgu was asked to step into an advanced No.10 role against Leeds, but Cunha has been given huge responsibility to carry the baton while Fernandes and Bryan Mbeumo are away.

Cunha now has four Premier League goals to his name, and he came extremely close to adding more to his tally against Leeds.

With Burnley up next, Cunha will again be pivotal to breaking down their defence.
