Matheus Cunha is enjoying his first season at Manchester United, but the Brazilian forward has a clear objective to help the club reach its former glories.
After a slow start to the 2025/26 season, Manchester United have turned a corner after going five games unbeaten.
United have 20 players on international duty this month, but they will be eager to get back to winning ways when they take on Everton at Old Trafford.
Last time out, United drew 2-2 with Tottenham Hotspur, thanks to a late equaliser from Matthijs de Ligt. The result saw Ruben Amorim achieve a milestone with the team on their longest unbeaten run with him as United head coach.
It helps that United’s new signings are settling in quickly, such as Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.
Cunha may not be scoring loads of goals, with one to his name this season, but his overall performances have been impressive – even if he looked frustrated with himself after coming off on Saturday.

Carlo Ancelotti named two United players in his Brazil squad for the November international period.
Brazil will face Senegal and Tunisia in two friendly matches, with Amorim likely to be cautious of Cunha and Casemiro getting injured or playing too many minutes.
While Casemiro has become one of Amorim’s more important players, Cunha is still settling into his new surroundings at Old Trafford and getting to know his teammates.

Speaking to the Brazilian press, Cunha explained how it feels to be a United player and his objective to get the club back to the top.
“Being at Manchester United right now is something that I’m so grateful for,” Cunha said, as quoted by Hayters TV.
“It’s very impactful for me to perform like we are doing, so show everyone that United is a club that needs to be at the top. We’ve done everything to put United there.
“And without doubt, to come here we need to show everyone it’s because we did a good job at our clubs. I hope we continue like this, we continue to push forward United to help them, to help the fans, to help the club. What everyone wants them to be.”
Matheus Cunha’s biggest moments for Brazil
At the age of 26, Cunha still has more to offer Brazil, but his biggest moment yet came when he won an Olympic Gold Medal at Tokyo in 2021.
Cunha scored three goals in five appearances at the Olympics.
The United forward scored his first senior international goal for Brazil in March of this year, scoring in a World Cup qualifier against reigning champions Argentina. Brazil lost the match 4-1.
Hopefully, Cunha will have a World Cup to remember next summer.
