Manchester United want to sign Mateus Fernandes, and the player is even keener.

Seasoned Manchester United supporters should brace for a full-on transfer saga, with West Ham looking to secure a high price for Mateus Fernandes.

The latest report via The Mirror shows how Manchester United and West Ham are far apart in their valuations of the midfielder.

There is one aspect which will give Manchester United an edge…

Mateus Fernandes wants Manchester United move

Mateus Fernandes is claimed to be ‘desperate’ to play in the Champions League, an attraction Manchester United can offer, after finishing in third place in the Premier League last season.

West Ham’s relegation means Fernandes is very unlikely to be satisfied playing Championship football next season.

While the Hammers want to get a bidding war going, claiming interest from PSG and Real Madrid, Manchester United are the club Fernandes wants.

The Mirror’s report claims Fernandes has ‘let it be known’ to West Ham’s hierarchy that he wants a move to Manchester United.

This gives the Red Devils an edge in negotiations, knowing there is no reason to be panicked into meeting West Ham’s asking price.

United are prepared to be patient and try and land Fernandes at the right price.

Strategy paid off with Bryan Mbeumo

The situation is reminiscent of Manchester United’s pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo in summer 2025.

It was reported in early June 2025 that Mbeumo wanted to sign with United. But it took until late July to seal the deal.

This was due to Brentford trying to sell the forward for a fee north of £80 million, encouraging rival interest from Chelsea and Tottenham.

United held firm and so did Mbeumo, with a deal eventually struck at £65 million guaranteed.

We expect this is the blueprint for the Mateus Fernandes deal, and we just need to show a little patience.
